President's Welcome

"Welcome to Congregation Beth Israel.
We are affiliated with the Union of Reform Judaism, an umbrella organization serving Reform congregations throughout the United States. The Reform movement parallels, in both time and direction, the development of Synagogue practice at Congregation Beth Israel.
The members of Beth Israel that sustain this picturesque Temple with a steeple, include those descended from the founders, second home owners,  and newcomers to the Honesdale area.
Rabbi Allan Smith has said of us that, 'The walls of our Synagogue, small and most beautiful, seem to ever expand to breathe new life into the Community. There is a very welcoming invitation for everyone to join in the embrace of Congregation Beth Israel.'
We look forward to meeting you and welcoming you to Beth Israel."

Liza Roos Lucy,
President

Rabbi's Welcome

"I am honored to join this historic congregation as rabbi.

To succeed Rabbi Allan Smith is both a humbling and exciting opportunity. For more than 165 years, Congregation Beth Israel has welcomed the stranger, lifted up the fallen, consoled the bereaved and celebrated each new day as one community.

Within the walls of our historic building generations of families and individuals have leaned on and learned from one another. Every encounter is an occasion for blessing and every blessing an opening to the sacred.
I look forward to welcoming you to Congregation Beth Israel."
